It’s probably the most common question I hear in my work. Maybe you’ve asked it yourself—when life feels like it’s dragging, when things aren’t quite clicking, or when you’re just plain lost.

The answer, at least according to my Record Keepers, isn’t about finding some grand, single purpose that’s set in stone. It’s about alignment. It’s about flow.

They often show me an image of an interstate—wide open, smooth, no obstacles in the way. When you’re in alignment with your purpose, life feels like that. There’s movement. Things show up at the right time. You don’t have to force or struggle; there’s an ease to it. You’re on the path you’re meant to be on.

But then, there are exits. Sometimes we take them because we’re curious. Sometimes we’re tired of the same scenery. Other times, we’re just following a detour that seems like the right way. But instead of leading to something better, we find ourselves lost, stuck on a dirt road full of potholes. It’s frustrating. It’s confusing. The way forward isn’t clear anymore.

That’s when people start asking, “What is my purpose?” But really, what they’re feeling is the misalignment. The exhaustion of trying to force a direction that isn’t working. The discomfort of being off-track. And those feelings? They aren’t punishments. They aren’t signs that you’ve failed. They’re just nudges—reminders that it’s time to find your way back to the flow.

Your purpose isn’t a job title. It’s not a role you play. It’s not even a single thing you do. It’s a way of being. It’s the energy you bring into the world when you’re truly yourself, unburdened by expectations, guilt, or fear.

If you’re feeling stuck, lost, or out of sync, you haven’t missed your purpose—you’ve just taken an exit. And the beautiful thing about exits? They always lead back to the road. You don’t have to have it all figured out. Just start moving toward what feels light, expansive, and true. The path will open up again. It always does.
